Who runs this site

An independent guide to consumer whole genome sequencing.

Test Your Genome exists because most people who Google "DNA test" end up buying a $99 chip that reads 0.02% of their genome, when a $180 sale on real WGS is often sitting one search result away. We built the site we wish we'd had before ordering our first kit.

What we cover.

Consumer whole genome sequencing — end-to-end. What it is, how it works, what the reports mean, how the raw files are used, which provider is worth ordering from, and which claims in the marketing you should ignore. We spend most of our time on Dante Labs because they're the only consumer WGS provider still shipping at a price point that makes economic sense, and we say so plainly.

We do not cover genetic ancestry testing in depth. There are already excellent resources for genealogy, ethnic breakdown, and DNA relative matching — that is not our beat.

How we get paid.

Test Your Genome is an affiliate site. When you click through to Dante Labs from one of our links and complete an order, Dante pays us a commission — typically a percentage of the sale. The commission has no effect on your price, and using our GENOME code saves you 10% on top of whatever Dante is currently listing.

This is disclosed at the top of every page, in our footer, and on our full affiliate disclosure page. The FTC requires this and we take it seriously; hiding it would be dishonest and also a federal violation.

Does the commission bias our recommendation?

Honest answer: we're financially motivated to recommend Dante. We've also independently concluded they're the best value for their target audience. If a competitor launched a better-priced or more reliable consumer 30× WGS service tomorrow, we'd cover it. If the acquisition situation at Dante devolves into something that harms customers, we will say so on this page before we say it anywhere else. The commission is not worth our credibility.

What we won't do.

  • Fabricate reviews, testimonials, star ratings, or user quotes
  • Show you AI-generated stock imagery pretending to be lab photography
  • Hide unfavourable information about a provider we earn commission from
  • Recommend providers we don't personally consider trustworthy
  • Publish content designed to rank in Google without actually being useful
  • Add "urgency" widgets, fake countdown timers, or synthetic scarcity

The site is deliberately quiet. Two CTAs per page, one preferred affiliate, no popups, no exit intent, no newsletter modal. If the writing doesn't earn the click, the popup won't.

Corrections and contact.

If we get something wrong — a price, a spec, a report claim, a regulatory detail — email us and we'll fix it. The genomics field changes fast and corporate ownership at Dante changed as recently as April 2026; we try to keep everything current but errors happen. Reach us via the contact page.

If you have a specific question we haven't answered on the site, that also gets an email response. We do not have a chat bot. Real messages get real replies.

Methodology

How we evaluate providers.

When we assess a consumer WGS provider, we weight the following, roughly in this order:

  • Data quality. Coverage depth, sequencer generation, accreditation of the lab (CLIA, CAP, ISO 15189). If the sequencing itself is compromised, nothing downstream matters.
  • Raw data access. FASTQ, BAM, VCF availability and whether they're bundled or extra. Providers that gate raw data behind additional fees are marked down significantly.
  • Report quality. Number of reports, clinical rigour (ACMG classification), and lifetime update commitments.
  • Price. All-in cost including standard shipping and any required add-ons for raw data.
  • Operational reliability. Turnaround time honesty, customer support responsiveness, corporate stability. This is where Dante scores worst; if a competitor matched Dante on the other four dimensions and beat them on this one, our recommendation would shift.
  • Data privacy posture. Ownership terms, deletion policies, cooperation with law enforcement, jurisdiction of storage.
